Event Details

2nd session of Spring 2020 semester

Arizona is home to many refugees who live in communities
across the state. Although here with permission from the
federal government, they often arrive with limited English and
only the possessions they can carry. Receiving some initial
assistance, they must assimilate into a new culture of work,
school, and daily life. This event will host the educational
teams from both the International Rescue Committee and the
Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest. They will lead a
discussion around how and why refugees come to the United
States, some of the challenges they face with education,
employment, cultural assimilation, and their positive impact
on our local and state economy.
