April Tyrrell

April Tyrrell
April Tyrrell is the campus counselor at West-MEC Central Campus, as well as a Professional Development instructor. Her journey in education started in the Deer Valley Unified School District, where she spent the first part of her career as an ELA teacher, teaching all grades, 9th-12th, and all ability levels from Read 180 to Dual Enrollment. She realized early on that she had a strong desire to go beyond the classroom to help students in multiple areas of their education, and eventually moved into the Counseling Office. April quickly recognized the absolute necessity for students to have access to multiple paths, CTE being one of the most significant. The move to West-MEC where she could lead and support students in this direction was more of a calling than a decision. Outside of work, April enjoys spending time with her husband to find the best taco spots, working out, shopping, and spoiling her pugs. She is also a proud empty-nester of two grown sons and a sweet daughter-in-law.
